Comments on your articles have long been a great way to receive feedback and engage with other users, but they are also a place for spam and abuse. Last time we tried to tackle the problem, we switched to Facebook comments, but this move was received badly by you, and was reverted. Your main concern was that you can no longer comment anonymously, and that you are limited to using a Facebook profile for commenting.

We are having another go at trying to make the commenting experience better, using a 3rd party commenting service called Disqus, which is a well known and widely used commenting service. And this time we are taking taking your previous concerns into account. You will be able to comment anonymously or with an identity of your choice. One drawback of this though is that you will no longer be automatically logged in as your Triond identity when commenting, and if you wish to use your Triond identity you have to manually write your name.

We started rolling this out on several of the sites, and if all goes well we will keep rolling it in the next couple of days. We hope that this move will make your commenting experience better.

There was a view counting glitch on January 27 which some of you have noticed. The reason was that during upgrade work on the counting mechanism, that is meant to improve its performance, some misconfiguration in one of the elements caused every article that received views to get stuck on 1.

It has since been fixed.

Since the views play a major role in your payments calculations, and the payments cycle for the 27th already finished and used those incorrect views, it yielded incorrect payments for all of you.

To rectify this issue, you are going to receive an additional cycle of payments for the 27th, based on your views from a day before. That means you are receiving the correct payment for the 27th, plus any amount you received in the erroneous cycle. In other words — it’s our mistake, so we’re paying up.

Please note, however, that the skewed views count for the 27th will remain as is.

We hope to refrain from such errors in the future, and as always, we make it up to you when we fault.
