Alright Copyright

Copyrights are important. In fact, in the business of publishing content, I am not sure there’s anything more important than this.

We would like to emphasize again to our members, that content you submit for publication must be your sole work of creation, or at least you must be the holder and owner of the copyrights for the items you publish. Otherwise you are prohibited by law to publish them.

You’ll notice we added a checkbox to the publish form, that you must check in order to verify that you are the copyrights holder of items you submit. For your convenience, you only have to check it once each time you visit.

Payments have been issued today

We realized that September 30th occurs on Saturday. In regard for payments that should occur on that day, we were left with several options:

  1. Pay next Monday (and be a little late on payments…)
  2. Work on the weekend (as if we don’t…)
  3. Pay today (a little earlier than schedule)

Well, as much as options #1 and #2 seemed attractive to us, we finally choose option #3 and I guess everybody is happy!

I would also like to remind you that our minimum payments are $0.50 for PayPal and $50.00 for Checks, so if you are paid by Check and still haven’t accumulated more than $50.00 in earnings – switching to PayPal may be a good idea. You will be paid much sooner.

Loudio (Beta) Launched!

Well, this is the peak we’ve been talking about. We launched loudio today, our main audio site. You might feel its looks are familiar, and that’s because we wanted it simple and clean-cut, just like picable. Everybody’s welcome to hear the beautiful (and at times very funny) audio we’ve received so far, and you are welcome of course to upload your audio.

Notice however that we are still running loudio as “beta”, because we wanted to launch it today in spite of it not being complete (we have many improvements to add, such as playlists and more navigation options). Being in “beta”, loudio might not be available 100% of the time (or 99.9%, as the industry folks say), so we are sorry for any inconvenience.

Loud it up!

Comments and Sharing on Picable

We added today the option to comment on pictures published on Picable. We have had several requests from users regarding this, and within changes we are doing to our core architecture, we found the time to implement this feature. So we hope you enjoy and comment on other’s photos!

Also notice that we added the “Share It!” bar between the picture and the comments, so now it’s easy to put pictures on your favorite sharing sites.

Last couple of days we were busy with core coding, and that’s the reason we didn’t post anything new here. In the next couple of days we plan on finishing this round of coding, which will peak at a new content site we’ll put up (features still top secret :) ).

So keep checking in, comment on photos and share them!

We are Being Dugg

At about 8:00am PST a story by Allen Strider, “Fly a Remote Control plane that doesn’t suck for $30 bucks” was dugg up to 1st page of digg.com. To any of you who don’t know, digg.com is a website where users can submit links to other web pages, so that other users can vote for. The votes determine the order in which links are displayed within digg.com so that the most popular stories get to be positioned first on the 1st page.

digg.com is a very popular site and is quite a phenomenon. Being so popular, stories that are posted on the home page receive a lot of traffic. the volume of traffic can be so high and so sudden, that many websites that have stories on digg’s home page crash. This phenomenon is known as the “digg effect“.

Today we experienced our first digg effect. Starting at about 8:00am our server was flooded with 10,000s requests simultaneously. Many of you who tried to use Triond or to view any of our content websites received warning messages, error messages, incomplete pages or even no response at all. We apologize for that.
To us – this also came as surprise. As soon as we realized what was going on we started fixing the problems that occurred as a result of the digg effect, and managed to stabilize the server. While writing this, Allen Strider’s story is down in digg’s 2nd page – still receiving 1,000s of views – and our server performs just about good as always.

Of course, a digg effect is a very positive thing that can happen if it is handled right. Now that we’ve experienced it for the first time, we know what to expect the next time and I hope that now we can handle digg effects without problems similar to those occurred today.

New News!

If you happened to miss the Blog link on the footer line of Triond, and you are not one of our happy blog subscribers, you can now check out the new “Triond’s News” section on the bottom right of the Triond homepage.

The news section will list recent titles from our blog, so now everyone can stay up to date with what’s new and what’s going on with us. This news section takes the titles in real time from our blog’s RSS, and it’s the first AJAX code we’ve implemented on Triond (being AJAX, it will not affect the homepage loading time).

We hope this addition will make our members more aware of developments. You are also welcome to comment on our blog posts, we appreciate your feedback and thoughts!

Who said “No News Is Good News”?

Moments of Glory

There haven’t been many changes lately in Triond. However, we did a minor change to the homepage today, and seperated “Recently Published Pictures” from “Recently Published Articles”, now writers and shooters can share their moments of glory :) .

Also, behind the scenes we made a major improvement in the database logic, which now speeds up the homepage loading in about 250%. We will implement this further accross the system with time.

And just a reminder – promote your content by sharing it, use the “Share It” feature!

Happy Creating

Picable Launched

It has been a few days of intense publishing – so intense that we have a new service in the air for a couple of days now, and only now I find the time to post about it…

Our new pictures site is up and running. Picable has a true Web 2.0 feel in design and navigation, and we hope to make it one of the largest photo stock sites out there. Since it’s launch we’ve been receiving hundreds of photos, and it’s been great publishing them.

Well, off to publish some pictures :)
