August Payments Sent

September 15, 2007

Is it possible that a whole month went by without us posting any news on our blog? I guess it is possible, since last post was regarding July payments.
Well, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything new going on at Triond – not at all. Rest assured, the only thing this “silent” period implies is the noise soon to come… we are always onto something.
Until it comes, please check your PayPal accounts and your mailboxes (for check payees) for your August payments.
Western Union payees, please expect your WU transaction# to arrive in your email in the next 24 hours.

  3. oby Says:

hi, my due payment for August was September 15th. Now it has been moved to October 15th, and I think it is payment for August activities. Why have i been skipped this month.

  4. Goupidan(nickname) Says:

YAY! MY FIRST PAYMENT OF 50 CENTS AND TO ANSWER oby:

YOU NEED TO HAVE AT LEAST 50 cents to receive your payment.

  5. Onflame Says:

Wow, I got only $3.44 for my August payment, but for September (the payment I’ll receive in October) I’ve already got $ 40. Thanks Triond.

  6. I have a question about copyright and owner authorship. Once you pay an author for their materail do you have any claims to the material say if it were to be published in book form or other publication monies?

    Thanks,
    Katina

  7. Katina,

Triond writers retain full rights to their content as explained in our User Agreement.

  8. howtoinvestinthestockmarket Says:

This is a truly awesome website! Thank you so much for everything!

  9. Concerned Browser Says:

Does everyone realize that while perhaps Triond lets you keep the rights to your own work, their privacy policy basically gives them the right to steal your identity? Read it.

  10. Concerned Browser,

Can you please point out the exact part of the Privacy Policy that you are talking about?

  11. Anne Lyken-Garner Says:

    Dear Triond,

RE: Ten Crazy, Lazy ways to make money.

It’s quite annoying when, after spending days and weeks researching and writing an article, just when I think I have it just right, and publish it; it’s changed by someone in the office who does not even read the entire piece.

An example of this is, I said in one of my headings,”Rent out your drive,” (driveway in America) obviously, without reading it, someone changed it to “Rent out your car.” Now if that person had read what followed, he/she would have noticed that ‘renting your car’ was infact NOT what was said.

This has happened before, and these changes are more often than not wrong ones that make no sense to the overall view of my articles. I’d rather this didn’t happen.

Secondly, we’re encouraged to think of as many useful tags as possible, ones which will make our articles more widely read. Half of my tags were removed, leaving me with ones that have no bearing on the article.

What’s going on? Why is it right for someone to do this, when I’ve thought out exactly what my tags would be, I’ve been left with ‘way’ as one of them. How is ‘way’ useful? This is very frustrating and annoying. I hope you can help, I feel like I’ve done a lot of work in vain.

Even the heading for my article has been changed, meaning something slightly different from what I want it to mean. My expression is exactly the message I want to convey, why should they be changed.

Now, I’ll try to edit, but it’ll be 2 weeks before anything is done. I’m not happy.

    Yours truly,
    Anne Lyken-Garner

  12. Laurie Says:

Why not publish the total payout for each month; that might encourage people to submit more articles.

I am deeply concerned about Anne Lyken-Garner’s comment above; it is simply UNETHICAL to change the content of an author’s work for any reason, except to reject it, in toto, and this ONLY for blatant violation of published rules. But making arbitrary changes – NO!

I would also like to know if there are specific external links available to individual articles so we could publicize our articles off-site. This should be obvious, but I haven’t seen any thing like this mentioned.

    Laurie

  13. Lisa Says:

    Dear Anne Lyken-Garner,

I would like to apologize for your dissatisfaction with the final edited version of your article. Our Editorial Team did not have any intentions of hurting you or your content. We receive content from all over the world, and the dialects of English can easily vary (for example, drive in American English is a colloquial term for car, whereas in The UK it means driveway). Our editors are human, and even we make mistakes. Further personal attention to this particular article can be addressed by e-mailing me directly at editor@triond.com

About tags: We understand that our users put in much thought about every aspect of their content. However, we will edit tags to what we feel will help the article/content perform its best. This concept, in fact, applies to every bit of editing we do.

In the future, it is best to make any comments/suggestions, ask any questions, and the like by e-mailing editor@triond.com. This should ensure a more rapid, fuller response.

  14. Dear Lisa, Thanks for your swift reply. I will most certainly use the address you’ve provided in the future.

I have now applied to edit that particular piece, but I am not sure how long I’ll have to wait before it’s fixed.

Thanks once again for your reply.
    Anne

  15. Concerned Browser Says:

I apologize for writing that Triond’s Privacy Policy, “gives them the right to steal your identity.” Perhaps I was being a bit paranoid. What worries me about the policy, however, is the term “other such general uses” as in, “f. The information collected by Triond is used for general purposes, such as trying to understand user preferences; customize promotional and advertising content users see; conduct user research; fulfill user’s requests for products and services; improve services provided; contact users; anonymous internal and external reporting requirements; and any other such general uses.” ANY OTHER such general uses seems a little to vague for my comfort. That’s all.

  16. Hi,Could I please ask a question. I’ve seen materials slip off the ‘recently published’ section on Triond’s home page in mere minutes.

This, I think, is because of the fact that many people ‘bulk’ publish. For example one person alone had 5 pictures published on Picable today. And this was all done one after the other.

Would it be a little fairer to writers whose materials just slide off the board, if one article/picture per person is put on the ‘recently published’ board?(No matter how many he/she publishes that day).

This way everyone gets an equal chance at their article being noticed and read, as opposed to one person ‘elbowing’ another off the list with multiple enteries of his/her own.

    Just a suggestion…

  17. lizzie2uk Says:

I don’t think that being on the board for longer makes much difference to the number of reads. After all, the real money comes from readers on other websites, not from Triond members. I agree that we do get a few from other members but that’s all.

  18. Thelma Ann Smelser Says:

My article on Strawberries has been pending since Sept. 23. Why is it taking so long?

  19. 1234-Ryan-4321 Says:

Last week I checked my earnings and all was well but when I checked today one of my articles went from more to less. Did Triond change earnings?

  20. Mike Crowl Says:

I’m a bit concerned about some of the things happening on Triond.
I had a word in an article’s title changed from ‘facts’ to ‘factoids.’ Factoids? Who uses this word in real English? I didn’t worry too much, but having seen that another writer’s been concerned about changes made to her article, I want to add my voice to the concern.
Secondly, I made a mistake in an article I published several days ago, and had to edit it. The edited version has never appeared. In the past, edited articles were up and running very quickly.
Thirdly, I received a rejection email from Triond this morning because I’d supposedly provided an article that ‘was too full of grammatical errors.’ I’ve never sent an article into Triond that has grammatical errors in it, and I’ve written some forty or more articles for Triond. Why would I start now?
Has a computer grammar program taken over Triond’s editing process? That would have to be the only explanation, unless the editor him or herself doesn’t know English as well as he/she thinks they do. It’s interesting that within the email I was sent from Triond there actually is an error in grammar! This makes receiving the email rejection ever more ironic.
    What’s going on?

  21. Lisa Says:

    Dear Mike,

I would like to apologize for the decline of your article. The Triond editors are indeed human, not computer. We are susceptible to normal human error. The particular editor who looked over your article must have noticed a few things that were oddly worded, from their perspective.

At Triond, we take the liberty of editing all of our content before finalizing the publishing process. In fact, it is our policy to do so. Our Editorial Team will only change an article to what we feel optimizes it for the final published version. The result of this means many lovely, unique, and successful articles.

As a reminder, there is always the option to edit any part of your content after it has been published. You may do so by heading to your Published Content page and clicking on the pencil/edit button.

    Thank you for choosing Triond.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  22. Neo love8 Says:

I have been told that i have been paid for 2 months, yet there is still no money in my paypal account… what is going on??

  23. Hi Neo love8,

You may need to visit your paypal account and accept the payment. This is what I had to do for my first 2 paypal payments.

  24. Neo love8,

As far as I can see you still didn’t reach the required minimum that entitles you a payment. The two lines you see on your welcome page show your Due Payment and This Month’s Income.

  25. HI, If I download pictures from the internet to use with my article, does this mean that I’m using copywrited material?

When asked at the point of publishing on Triond, can I then say that the material is mine even thought it’s been downloaded?

  26. Hello Anne,

You should not use copyrighted pictures along with your original content, since it then renders the entire piece unfit for publication.

Think of it this way – would you put a paragraph in your piece which is identical to a paragraph published elsewhere, and then call it yours?

There are 2 ways (hard and easy) in which you can embed pictures with your piece, and still keep it legit:

    1. The hard way – reference the picture source and receive permission to use it from its copyrights holder.

    2. The easy way – use a publicly available picture. There are several licensing methods (GPL, Creative Commons, etc.) which grant you permission to use the picture. Pictures of this kind can be widely found on sites such as Wikipedia (but be sure to check, not all pictures are CC!), and on stock photography sites.

Using pictures with your articles is a good thing when done right, but if in doubt regarding copyrights issues, don’t put them in.

  27. HI Oren,

    Thanks, that really helped.

  28. Leno Says:

wow this site does really offer writers a chance to earn money. I submitted one piece and made over $60 in one month. the only problem is that it remains pending in my income area. The payment was supposed to have been sent with the August payment but i got nothing and remains as pending. second my due payment for september 15th does not reflect this amount that i have not been paid. I have written a couple of times and have not gotten a single reply. please address urgently so that i get it with next payment.

  30. Leno,

Your payment has just been sent using PayPal. I am sorry for the delay but it seems there was a problem with your PayPal identification that constantly failed your payments (both on August 15th and September 15th).
It appears to be solved now and PayPal was able to process your payment.

  31. leno Says:

yup got both payments, just wanted to say THANK YOU.

  32. Xzavian Wrushen Says:

How long does it take–on average–for things (specifically poems) to get published? Also, on average, what typical revenues are made off of poetry.

  33. Beatrice Adams Says:

    Hello, Triond.

May I suggest that you include in the Triond website a discussion forum section so that we can also write messages to our fellow authors without having to post it publicly as a comment on one of their articles?

That way, we can receive suggestions for improvement on our writings that our fellow writers might not want to post publicly, or greet each other Happy Birthday, things like that.

    What do you think?

  34. Hi,
How do I get rid of spam mail? I know I’ve read it somewhere on this site before, but now I can’t find it again when I need to use it.

Please help! I’ve got a very long spam mail to get rid of on one of my articles.

  35. Beatrice,

Improvements in social aspects of Triond is certainly on our agenda and we are working on them.

  36. Anne,

Go to “My Content”, and then to “Comments”. You can then toggle each comment to spam.

  37. All that does is say yes or no. I would like to get rid of the particular comment because it’s extremely long and is sounds like one of those e-mails which are sent to encourage people to give them money for nothing.

Is there any way I can bin or delete it?

  38. Anne,

If you say yes, it will not be displayed anymore. That is – it will not be displayed on your published article.

I did not get the payment

  40. Kimberly Says:

I have been here for awhile and published many articals and stories. I just feel that I’m going nowhere with this, becasue for example at least 10 people will see one writng and I will only get $00.01 how lame is that! I have been trying so hard to put my writing everywhere and I get nowhere at all. I don’t get paid enough for my writng and I bet some people have been thinking of the same thing, I’m not the only one. I just feel bad that I’m not getting enough from this place I just don’t know what to do.

  42. Kimberly,

I don’t know what you mean by “a while” but my personal experience is it took me one whole year to get $50. THEN I wrote one article that – heaven only knows why – captured people’s interest, and I made a hundred dollars in fifteen days.

Just keep writing, make sure you follow the rules of Internet writing, and try to think up topics that Internet readers find interesting.

I suggest you study the Triond newsletter very well to get some hints on which topics and formats sell.

If you keep at it long enough, you’ll get your break.

    Good luck!

  43. Kimberly,
Beatrice Adamas is right. I was here for 8 months and left my monthly payments in paypal for four months just to accumulate $20. Then – and I don’t know why either- am article took off and I made $177 in May and have been receiving over $100 a month since then. I was ready to give up until my May payment. Beatrice is right, give it time and it WILL happen.

    Good Luck

  44. I have a question I have been wondering about for some time. I have sent inquiry emails but got no response.

If Triond writers retain full rights to their content does this mean that we can publish our content on other websites?

  45. Me too, I’ve been sending e-mail enquiries to the editor with no responses either. Maybe it’s best to post stuff here.

  46. HI, I’ve just published an article, ‘Welcome to mankind’s new home in space.’

However, 3 of my pictures have disappeared. Can you check this for me please.

    Thank you.

  47. I often see Internet writers – the ones with bylines, like us – post their articles on different sites. So I guess, if the other site doesn’t mind receiving content that has been posted somewhere else before, there’s nothing that will prevent us from posting the same article there. In the same way, the agreement we click on when we submit our articles only asks that we own the copyrights to our work, and doesn’t ask whether or not we submitted it somewhere else before.

(It would be a different case if we submitted the article to a site that bought us out of our copyright and ownership of the article.)

  48. Beatrice,

Duplicating content over several sites is not a good practice. It has a very negative effect on distribution and monetization efforts.

We highly recommend not to re-publish.

The only reason we do not forbid re-publishing on other sites after originally publishing with Triond is that we can not effectively enforce it.

Yes – we can decline an article we receive that has already been published before – we can check it on the fly – but we can’t guess that the author intends to re-publish it elsewhere. We may decide to take it down though.

  49. Lisa Says:

    Dear Anne,

I just checked my in-box and do not see any mail from you. Please ensure you are sending your e-mails for the editorial team to editor@triond.com. All inquiries to the editor are best sent to this e-mail address, and I attempt to respond as quickly as possible.

The e-mails are something I choose to do in addition to my general editing tasks. Therefore, it may take a day or so to get a response. Please be patient, I will take care of it as thoroughly as possible when I can take the time to put full effort into the inquiry/request you send.

    Hi,

I have some articles and that are due like 2 days ago, but you didn’t pay me? What happened?

  51. Rker Says:

This month was pretty good for me in terms of money. I’m glad I joined Triond. Thanks again.
