Introducing the Triond Online Editor

You asked for it, you got it! With our new Online Editor, now you can write and edit your articles directly on Triond’s website. Our Online Editor’s layout is easy to use: instead of uploading a file, just type your work online and add pictures, video, and links with a few clicks. Hit “submit” when you are done, and the system automatically sends your work to the Triond Editorial Team. When your article has been published, you’ll be able to edit it without resubmitting a new file to fix – you can do it all with the Online Editor!

You can still submit articles by uploading a file under the “Submit Article” tab. If you like to live in the fast lane or want to end fussy file uploads, make the Online Editor your default submission method. Current Triond users are set to use the “Submit Article” method by default, but you can easily change your default method under the “Account” tab. Once you’re logged into your account, just scroll down to “Optional Details” and select your preference under “Default Submission Method.”

For a detailed FAQ on how to use the Online Editor, you can visit our new help center resource.

Happy publishing!

  1. Hmmm… good addition, but I don’t think this is for me. I take days to right my articles sometimes. Others I work on while doing 4 or 5 additional ones at the same time. I couldn’t do that with the online editor, I don’t think.

    Thanks though,
    Anne

  2. Glynis Smy says:

Sounds useful to me for my ‘pop in the head’ items, I will try it out

  3. Lissette says:

Thank you very much for adding this submitting mode, it will be very useful for short articles or those that require little research. Sounds great!

  4. Shergill says:

This is good news but I will have to learn to use the new software. All the comupter geeks will tell me that it is easy, really easy.

I will have to learn it.

    Shergill

  5. Darlene says:

The new online editor sounds great and I am sure it will be very helpful for many Triond writers. Like Anne, I sometimes take days to finish an article and I save all submitted work to jump drive. If there is a way to save unfinished work using the online editor I would love to try it.

    Thanks,
    Darlene

  6. K D Lovett says:

I usually write in word and then copy past it into any online editor that I use to submit. Not sure if this would work for those that take longer times to write, but it might be worth trying.

    Good luck!

  7. thestickman says:

As usual, -you’ve got initial problems with it. I just wrote an article, -took me under an hour. I proofed and corrected for spelling, grammar, etc. Placed the YouTube link I wanted to cite (hey, -there is no “hypertext” ability here, is there? You cannot ‘add a LINK/URL” to cite sources??)

Got it ready, filled in the required fields (tags, description, etc.), and hit “SUBMIT”.

-I was immediately directed to enter my USERNAME and PASSWORD (I was obviously already signed-in, else I would not have been able to READ the on-line editor page), and clicked “SUBMIT” and immediately my story completely vanished! Gone! Cannot ‘back up’ and find it. -Not submitted, but GONE! Lost! :-( (Well, I *did* retain a copy in MSWORD, about half expecting this new toy be about as useful as the ‘Triond toolbar’ feature, -a feature whose function & worth eludes me still…)

Nice ‘toy’ this, I could find it useful. But it’s going to upset people if they LOSE article(s) that are irretrievably lost due to this white elephant.

-How about just fixing the “FIX” button on DASHBOARD? That is rather important, -and has not been functioning for what, -two weeks now? :-) The ability to “FIX” (or “edit”) posted TAGS/DESCRIPTION text on IMAGES is FAR more useful to me than this ‘live submit’ thing is currently..

    :-)

    -thestickman (still enjoying Triond!) :-)

  8. Aliyu says:

i like this good work of yours well it’s a very good editor has the ability to fix your lil problems.

  9. Ralph Brandt says:

When I saw this my thought on it was exactly expressed by Anne Lyken-Garner:

“Hmmm… good addition, but I don’t think this is for me. I take days to right my articles sometimes. Others I work on while doing 4 or 5 additional ones at the same time. I couldn’t do that with the online editor, I don’t think.”

I would suggest you include at the front of an article that is prepared with this software a disclaimer.

“This article was thrown together without being well thought out and written. Suggest the thoughts in it may not be worth your time.”

I would appreciate if they were tagged this way so I can avoid them.

I get the feeling at times that some people think using proper grammar and spelling is not with the times. I’m not perfect on it, far from it but when I see articles that were written by people who can’t tell two, too from to, where, ware, from wear, and their, they’re from there, I wonder if maybe they should spend more time….

  10. Zhang says:

The only addition (or edition) that I need is something that will increase my income. The rest is BS.

  11. Mary Contrary says:

I will stick with what I know, plus the rusk of losing what I have written, is just not worth it!

  12. IcyCucky says:

This sounds great, but I am like Anne, Darlene, and Ralph when it comes to writing…

It is good to know we have the option though! Thank you..

  13. Affinity says:

Very nice addition, keep it up Triond.

  14. I hadn’t even thought of this. Great idea. If only you came out with some forums now…

  15. Mike Crowl says:

I’m not sure that I’ll use it for writing directly – although that’s not impossible – but it will certainly make editing articles that I’ve previously uploaded a lot easier. When I writing blogs I sometimes write them in Word first and then upload them and sometimes write them direct into blogger. So time will tell whether the same applies to Triond. Anyway, I think it was worth your doing.

  16. I agree that this is a great addition to Triond, but perhaps there can be a way to save an article before publishing similar to the way Google Docs can be saved.

Also as one of the previous users said forums would also help alot, community wise.

  17. Finally it’s here. Great job! Now a search engine for the Toolbar and for Firefox would be amazing! Think about that!

  18. thestickman says:

re: “…perhaps there can be a way to save an article before publishing similar to the way Google Docs can be saved.”

What a great idea!! You could ’save to your account’ and come back later to edit, add, etc., and not have to “SUBMIT” the article until it is finished! Sort of like an ‘online desktop’ that is yours, private, until YOU (the account holder) deems the article to be publish-worthy!

-Would be GREAT… you could work on your article from OTHER workstations, other computers away from your home… just ’sign-in’ and continue working, SAVE the work and return to it again, laster!

    Awesome! ;-)

    “me”

  19. Gokul says:

    That’s Great!

I focus on an issue, writers usually take time; they may write into pieces; they must polish it again and again till he or she gets satisfied….

Can I save my unpublished work using the editor? That would be a great functionality. But the features I read are really good and will make things better for a writer. Because, when I use a word processor, I may not know how it would look like on the site. The editor is a great idea.

    Cheers!
    Gokul

  20. Gokul says:

And….I never mean a “write and publish yourself” kind of editor. That is not triond’s way. It would be cool if a writer could save an unpublished work half-handed so that he can continue; he can refine before sending it for publishing.

I worry would it work with an online editor? If it is not feasible, I personally prefer the way how I send articles now.

    Thanks.
PS : sorry for two comments, I could not avoid it.

  21. Gokul says:

..and Is it not a good idea that online editor allows the writer to store his or her half-handed work on the local computer, the writers use; by some config settings on local computers;…ok…though it is technically possible, i was wondering would it be a good idea for triond to consult the development team to check its feasibility.

  22. Kim Donovan says:

    Hi All -

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions, they are important as we further develop the Online Editor.

There is the option to “Paste as text” or “Paste from Word” in the Online Editor, just look at the formatting buttons. If you like to write your articles over long periods of time, you can do so outside of the Online Editor, and then copy/paste it simply using the aforementioned buttons.

    Best,
    Kim

  23. Well, I had to come back and say that with a slight bit of encouragement, I’ve just published on the new system. (No, this is not a publicity stunt for my new article – only if you want it to be :-) ).

Seriously speaking now; I had been working on an article for some time, so I had it saved in ‘word.’ I went to the ’submit online editor’ (please excuse my terminology, I’m really rubbish at this techno lingo) and clicked on a ‘w’ thingy at the bottom of submissions’ panel of the page.

It asked me something like, “do you want to access…”(oh I can’t remember what it asked me, suffice to say, there was an option to copy and paste my article).

Hit ‘insert’and you’re on your way. This morning I had to fix a mistake in the heading. It took me straight to the page.

I haven’t worked with pictures yet, but for anyone who already has a blog, it shouldn’t be too hard, I don’t think – the system is similar.

I liked the fact that I was able to see what my article would look like once it had been published. I’ve changed my mind and am willing to give this a good try. I’ve read one comment above. For this person, I would strongly recommend saving into word first.

I would never attempt to type in an article directly into the system. I think that as writers we need to put aside our creations for a day or so before coming back to them to mold them to perfection.

    Thanks Triond.
You’ll now be receiving a lot of ‘please help me’ letters from this user.
    Anne

  24. Mark says:

Great idea, can’t wait to use it! Sounds very efficient!

  25. Ivy Black says:

Over the last couple of days I was thinking about writing an article about improvements to Triond, and funny enough an online editor was on my list! Great work Triond staff.

As to comments about bad quality posts chucked ad hock via the editor. I think already a few people mentioned it before – the tool isn’t really for writing, for me it means I can actually work with the structure of the text before publishing. Of course you can do that in Word, however from there it still needs to be transformed into HTML, and this can lead to things not necessarily looking as you intended them to.

I understand that the editor won’t give exact indication either, but it definitely will be a lot closer to the final article.

  26. [...] Have you tried the new Online Editor yet? Check out Wednesday’s post. [...]

Sorry for the typos. I commited a crime. I did not proof before I hit send. You will find me sitting in the corner for a few days.

  29. Melanie says:

Yay. Copy-pasting is two steps less than copy-pasting, saving as text file, uploading as it used to be. Thanks for this!

  30. [...] has just introduced their online article editor.  Not only can you paste your text right in the Triond site, you can check for errors,  and save [...]

  31. Not that I am perfect or anything but you just declined a poem of mine for “Spelling” errors, and there is Not One!!! No spelling errors at all! You are talking to a spelling bee champ!?! I really don’t understand!?
I’m going to resubmit it, if you say spelling errors again I’m going to have to think that someone in your editing room has some prejudice against me! I mean, really!

  32. I am a new comer to the site and have published four article and can not find them. only the picture and title. can you help i don’t know what do do.or do i leave your site Melbean.thank you

  33. Julia says:

I truly like the online editor. Unlike most people who own a PC (well this is an assumption anyway) I own a Mac and unfortunately your site will not accept any of the various file formats I use. So when you added the online editor I was elated. I could take my time writing what I wanted and then simply cut and paste my finished work onto the form.
    Thank you triond

  34. faatih says:

hello online editor .i have submit content many times but it lost.why its not published . im worried plz tell me.

  35. Chris says:

    September/4th/2008,
    Sir,
Thanks for the “Online editor” it’s really goin’oe make Job so easy for us…farewell to unneccary uploading.

  36. Catelin says:

This was quite a surprise to me. I had been away from being able to write and submit since June 16 due to moving. Plus getting internet in my “country” home has been a test of patiences. I still loose it now and then and although it is DSL it is often slower than the dial-up I once experienced.

So much of what I write is achieved by research, lots of it. So I much prefer the old way of doing this.

Yet, for something short like recipes, or a short poem, this method would be ideal.

I have saved the information on it, as with a lot of other informative items you provide for us.

This is a method I will have to learn and get use to using before I can say whether or not I am 100% for or against it. I will see.

  37. sherry says:

I love it! It works great and makes writing my items so much easier. Thank you so much for adding this!

  38. jhenz says:

    Hello Team,

After almost 3 months, I gave the Online Editor a try and found it really efficient and effective. Great work!

One thing though, every time I clicked something on the toolbar it opens into another tab/page, which is a bit confusing. It would be more efficient if functionalities withing Triond (eg. Dashboard/Home, Comments, Income, etc) would open on the same tab/page.

It’s just a piece of my mind, but if the majority is fine with the current situation, no problem with it. I’ll just deal with it. As they say, if you can’t change it, why not change yourself for it. :D
