Tag – You’re It!

Last December we included advice on tagging in the newsletter, but since it’s so important (and because we have a new feature!), we’d like to revisit the topic.  Relevant tags help your article get found in searches, they help our Editorial team know where to publish your work, and they help readers understand your article’s subject at a glance.

Now, it’s easier than ever to add relevant tags to your articles. We’ve added a new feature in the Online Editor that suggests tags for your article based off of your text.  Getting tag suggestions is easy; when you’ve finished writing your article, scroll down to the Tags field.  Like always, you can enter your own tags or, you can click the new ‘Get Suggestions’  button to witness tagging magic.  The new button automatically scans your content for relevant keywords and suggests tags for you. You can keep them or erase them, it’s up to you.

Here’s a short video that demonstrates how to use the new feature (for best viewing, expand it to full screen):

So go on now – get tagging!

Happy publishing!

  1. Jules says:

Cool! Thank you for the suggested tagwords… that has been very helpful.

  2. Joni Keith says:

I’m so glad you added this feature. I noticed it yesterday when I submitted my article. This is such a help since assigning tags is one of my shortcomings and yet seems to have so much to do with the success of an article.

    Thanks Triond.

  3. Matt John says:

Yes, thanks Triond for adding this stuff. Now it easy to find tags from my article.

  4. Neil Bates says:

Wow, cool this is a great idea, I struggle with tags… Can we re-visit old published work and “fix” them with new tags?

    Thanks

  5. Vladislav says:

    Good,very helpful.

  6. Vanilla Dreaming says:

Great idea, though does’nt seem to work too well? It suggested “Robbie Williams” as a tag for a poem i wrote called broken angel…

  7. Glynis Smy says:

sorry still laughing at the Robbie Williams ‘Angel’ tag response above.

    Useful new addition thanks

  8. C. Jordan says:

Sounds a good idea, can,t wait to try it.

  9. C. Jordan says:

    Forgot to leave ID :)

  10. louie jerome says:

Should be interesting to see what it comes up with! I’m with Glynis, the Robbie Williams one is funny.

I noticed the new button last night and was wondering why I hadn’t seen it before. :P

It’s a useful addition, as long as Robbie Williams doesn’t mind. ^.^

  20. thestickman says:

May I complain about something that has been bothering me for awhile? Editing, by the Triond staff…

I have noticed that certain words in my articles after having been submitted with the “Online Editor” feature, appear incorrect when the article is published. Small things really, and not happening nearly as often as they were even six months ago, when this was an event that occurred multiple times with every article that I published. Or the use of BOLD text being changed to ‘normal weight’ text, or commas/semi-commas being placed incorrectly that again, do not agree with my offline saved version from which I copied directly to the “Online Editor.”

Most recently, an article of mine included the word “beachgoer” which, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, is spelled CORRECTLY. One word, no hyphenation. My published article had the word changed to “beach-goer.” This is not correct, nor is this the word that I used. I checked it against the ‘offline’ saved version (from which I copy & paste into the “Online Editor”) of my article and sure enough, -it had been altered at the publishing level.

Is this some automatic feature of submitting via “Online Editor” or is there a human element involved here? While the best of intentions are probably at work here, changing word(s) or punctuation is not the best thing to be doing if this is in fact what is happening. I write for ‘western’ readers and use various spell-checkers and grammar analyzers that use the syntax for western grammar & spelling, and while they can (and do!) still fail (in the case of MSWORD, often horribly so,) these are MY words. And yes, even if I use them incorrectly myself, these are the words that I chose. I am slightly offended to think that my choice or use of words *might be* subject to being altered by someone trying to help and that they make it worse, or incorrect as was the case here. I certainly see enough bad spelling and incorrect grammar in some content being published to make me think that it isn’t even being looked at sometimes. Then I see little suggestive changes like those described happening to my articles so, I find myself confused…

Can you offer and suggestion or advice?

    -thestickman

  21. Judy Sheldon says:

Thestickman, I have experienced this also. More often than not I am embarrassed by typos I missed that are of my own making, but a few times I found my work altered and published incorrectly. Fortunately now Triond can be edited so much quicker. There is no more submitting a fix and waiting for days. I am really grateful for this improvement.

And now to the new and improved Triond submission page that would assist with tags. Thanks again. We can never accuse Triond of not being innovative. Thanks again.

  22. eddiego65 says:

This will truly be helpful! Thanks!

  23. jhenz says:

it’s really a good improvement. i like the idea. :)

keep up the good work team!

    -jhenz-

  24. Great features, triond.

I would like to say that I’m not pleased with my work being edited incorrectly either. If a mistake is spotted and corrected, I would be most grateful.

However, when my bold or italics print are converted to plain text, this really bugs me. I use UK spelling and grammar, and even though I no longer worry about my work being changed to the US spelling, I’m not satisfied with the other changes.

I spend a long time on my work, choosing my words and phrases carefully, I’d rather not be edited for italics (which are needed in some cases). I would much prefer to be edited for typos. I think that this will serve the Triond community better.

We all know that this is what is needed here.

Thanks, Triond, for all you do.

  25. JK Kristie says:

Another awesome addition Triond. Was an exciting surprise when I first use it yesterday. :)

  26. The tag suggestion didn’t give me any suggestions. It remained blank. :-(

(Today was the first time I’ve used it. I wonder what I’m doing wrong).

  27. PAMELA R MACE says:

Great idea. I sometimes have problems coming up with good tags. I hope it will be a helpful addition.

  28. Ruby Hawk says:

Sounds like a good idea, I will try it and see how it works for me.

  29. Anonymous Me says:

Way to go triond, for taking the thinking out of writing yet again.

Writing is supposed to be hard work, it’s supposed to challenge the writer to think creatively. Yet, triond has made it far too easy to publish incoherent, misspelled, garbled hogwash. Where are triond’s editors? Or, are there any?

Dear Triond, here’s an idea: force people to write better by denying publication of articles and poetry that are riddled with misused words and disorganized material. (Oh, wait a minute, then you would earn only a fraction of what you are now)

  30. Tel says:

    Hi Marla,

Thanks for the new feature. I haven’t the chance to use it. Normally, I know what keywords to use, and now, I’m interested to compare Triond tags with my own pre-conceived choices.

  31. lenabrown says:

Took an extended holiday vacation and I come back to this!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

  32. Aleksandar Radojicic says:

  34. SMXSatellite says:

  35. Ronne says:

    good work there..
now it really makes it more easier.

  36. Jordann says:

This is awesome, it makes things a lot easier :)

  37. xxEverWanderingxxo says:

    great idea :)

  38. thestickman says:

Happened again, -I had to re-submit twice to get the “description” accepted the way I wrote it. It was being completely removed and as lead-in to the first paragraph, it made absolutely no sense the way it was being edited.
*Finally* though, the “description” I wrote was accepted. -After two “FIX” attempts were failed or rejected. You know, -if the “FIX” I suggest is inappropriate or unacceptable, it would be fair to say so and/or send the article to “REVISIONS”, but re-publishing *without* the changes I made edited-out should not be what takes place. “Editors” are not really supposed to be changing content without the approval of the author. Spelling correction, acceptable, but content deletion or revision? No. Hmm..
    :-)

  39. Frank says:

    Fantastic!!!

  40. Jack McCoy says:

Love the new feature! Works like a charm.

P.S. to thestickman: If the punctuation and grammar in your articles are anything like your comments on this blog, believe me, the editors are doing you a favor.

  41. hates chah! says:

    I hate this site!

  42. anbc says:

Thank you Triond, it made my “tag” easy.. I would not think for more relevant words to add.

  43. Jena Isle says:

I’m wondering if pictures are given the same weight as the articles? Thanks for any information. More power.

  44. thestickman says:

“…If the punctuation and grammar in your articles are anything like your comments on this blog, believe me, the editors are doing you a favor.”

Point taken. And no, my spelling and grammar for online content strives for correctness. It is when content is altered without prior consent, sentences restructured, reordered or omitted entirely that is the problem. It is my prerogative to use whatever form of spelling I care to (and that includes the use of “leet” on the private blogs,) but it the mandate that editors not preemptively alter the intellectual property of the writer without prior consent or at least, due notification. I have received mentions in private that some users’ images have been swapped for others at the editorial level as well as textual alterations. This is not right. Accept the article as-written, reject/return for revision them otherwise. Anything else is not right. That was my inquiry and my complaint.

-”Jack McCoy” huh? -”Law & Order” Senior District Attorney? I feel honored to have received your notice (smile.) Just don’t prosecute me, -’kay?

  45. MJ. Taylor says:

How do you use the twitter thingy?

  46. Ellie says:

Twitter is a service that allows you to stay connected with other Twitter users (friends, family, co-workers, etc.) through the exchange of frequent status updates which you create. You can learn more about Twitter by visiting their site at http://www.twitter.com.

After you open a Twitter account, you can enter your Twitter credentials on Triond so that your Twitter status is automatically updated when you publish a new article. You can do this by visiting the “My Social Media Accounts” section of your Account page and updating the Twitter section.

  47. Whitsun says:

Wow, that’s great, i can never think of good tags when i’m submitting something, but can you put that in at the submitting screen?

  48. miniome says:

    thats cool

  49. kmcoppens says:

So I’m new here to Triond and I was noticing how some people are earning quite a large sum of money each month. I guess I’m wondering how you go about doing so. I have 6 things published..do I need more? Or what makes the difference.

    Thanks!! :)

  50. thestickman says:

Yes, quantity and quality are essential for success. The more you submit, the more you get read. Read the works of others, make & invite friends to visit your works, visit theirs too. Promote your works on blogs, Stumble, DIGG, etc. :-) Mainly, more articles. Always.

    Best!

    Dear Triond,

My pending articles are left unnoticed. It had been days since I uploaded them. Please do something. Thank you very much.

    Cheers!

  55. Ellie says:

It usually takes no more than one full business day for your submitted content to be reviewed by the Editorial team. We’re experiencing a high volume of submissions right now, so please be patient if your submission is pending for a bit longer. Please be assured that your submissions were received, and will be reviewed for publication as soon as possible.
