Announcing August Special
First, we would like to report that the flagging button idea that you – the Triond community – generated was truly a great idea. Triond users are now reporting content they think needs to be removed or relocated and we’re following their advice when appropriate! We are thankful to all of you who are diligently flagging content and helping us improve the Triond network.
As part of our next step, we have decided to combine the new flagging feature into this month’s bonus program with a revival of the long-beloved quantity bonus. Here’s how it will work: Every writer who publishes at least 5 articles (excluding articles published on Authspot, Relijournal, Picable, Kleep and Loudio) and also flags at least 15 articles will receive a 10% bonus. That’s right, the good ole days of quantity are back!
Please note the details: we will only count a piece of content as “flagged” after an editor has removed or relocated it (in the case of the “Wrong Category” flag). Also, good faith will be required: users who try to game the system by massively flagging other users without reason and merely for the sake of obtaining the bonus will be (1) banned from flagging content and (2) forever banned from participating in this type of bonus offer.
We all want to make an impact on the quality of Triond Network, so we hope that this special will not only help us remove low quality content, but that high quality content will instead take its place. Make it a goal to work on producing high quality articles for this month’s special, not articles that the flagging system will eventually discover!
By making a real impact on our quality here at Triond we all stand to benefit – good luck and of course Happy Flagging & Publishing!

P.S. That’s what the new badge will look like, so keep an eye out for it!

Hmm… It’s easy to post the number of specified articles, but the problem I see is with the flag spammers. I’m sure it’ll be pretty hard to stop them all from spamming and getting the bonuses. Hopefully there is no future system abuse in our very near future here. Thanks for the update.
So I have to flag people to even be eligible? Are you kidding me? You know now massive people will have their content removed/re-located for no reason, right? What a joke.
No Joke, a human editor is going over each flagging. If someone will try to game the system he/she will be banned from flagging.
how about spammers, can something be done with those? Hopefully, we can flag spammers too. Those that just signed in here in Triond to litter it with waste.
I am deeply sympathetic over your human editors, some people would think this is a game and would flag a lot of articles putting an inhumane burden on those that are doing the review.
I have never used the flag button myself, but hopefully when a person flag somebody there should be a complaint box that should be filled out to explain about the action. This would lessen your editors work, as well as limiting happy trigger troublemakers.
I totally agree with that.
I agree with him…..!
yes…..i think every flag must have detailed expaination to check those who think its like a game of just click! click!! click!!!
Flagging 15 articles to get bonus, is it really a good idea? I can’t imagine how many articles would be left out there if all the members flag 15 articles this month to get bonus.
In my opinion flag button should be used only when there is a serious problem with an article. Every article is important for a writing site.
Good to know Triond is working to get back its reputation and traffic.
I do agree that flag button has brought some positive changes here.
Thank You Triond!!! great challenge!! hopefully ill do well and get the 10% bonus!!
Udi, You will have work really hard to monitor this flagging. If you can really do that I will appreciate this new idea. Let us work together to make Triond the best writing site. I sincerely hope that Triond and its writers will grow together in the coming days.
I don’t like the idea of flagging 15 articles for participating in this program, as it leads to the misuse of the flag button and causes the article being removed just because the writers do not favor in one’s writer. I don’t think i’ll participate for this august special.
I guess you missed this:
“users who try to game the system by massively flagging other users without reason and merely for the sake of obtaining the bonus will be (1) banned from flagging content and (2) forever banned from participating in this type of bonus offer.”
but people will still be flagging articles, just for the sake of earning a stupid badge and a bit more money. this isn’t something we should be doing. this is the job of the site owners and admin.
i can see this causing a lot of problems…
I think the flag button should be accompanied by some evidence of languagecide, to keep the flagger honest.
I agree the site admins should be flagging, it will just instigate people to flag and make more money
I think the idea will work, only one question: does flagging articles from the past count for this bonus, or only articles written in August? Thanks.
Past articles count. The objective is to identify and remove insufficient quality articles.
Sounds like a good idea, but, why so many flags? So, we pretty much have to hunt for these ‘low quality’ articles. Does this include people who do not speak and write English well? They seem like a easy target. Also, will the writer have an opportunity to fix their mistakes? I read a lot of articles where minor mistakes are made, but, I know what was intended.
There seems to be a lot of room for interpretation, and if someone doesn’t interpret the flag button the same as Admin, then they will be banned. Just something to think about. Would it be possible to get a definition of each button, so that everyone will be on the same page? Thanks
I know, just banned from flagging. Will the ‘flagger’ receive a warning before being flagged. Because they just might not understand what the button includes or doesn’t include.
Just check the Hot Content and you will find lots worth flagging.
i agree Susan
I dunno– bonus for flagging? You’re just going to arm the wrong people– And if you’re just looking for someone to do the editor’s job– you’re going to need therapy… count me out of this Special…
A good idea. Hopefully, the competency of the person doing the flagging is honest. Herein is another good way to weed-out the gamers; for if they flag inappropriately, they are history! I LIKE the idea and hope it is not abused. But even if it IS, the person doing the flagging only harms themselves.
Triond’s renewed commitment to quality is impressive!
I think this is awesome. these bonuses do make a difference in your earnings.
this is the worst contest i have seen. are you serious?
you are going to reward people for flagging, and then tell us that a human editor will check those articles flagged?
why not just check the articles that are being published in the first place if you are going to have time to check what is going to be thousands of flagged articles… because that is what will happen.
Haha, that’s funny. I don’t know how many writers we have at triond but multiply that by fifteen, and you will have a lot of flagging the same articles to death.
Maybe it’s too late for this, but maybe there should be some higher standards applied to the acceptance process when joining triond.
How will we know if a flagged article counts as one of the 15 needed to qualify? Are you going to give each of us a list on our dashboards showing how many qualified flagged articles we have given you? I’m not publishing the 5 articles needed to qualify unless I already know I qualify with the 15 flagged articles.
There is a new row in the activity table on the dashboard that shows how many articles were flagged by you.
I thought they were the number of flags my posts received.
Thanks Triond, finally a good idea. Its good that a human editor is looking at the flagged articles or we will have massive spam with the flagging tool.
If hundred persons flagged for one article as wrong category means, usually the first person only will considered for getting the bonus and remaining person doesn’t understand why they are not getting the bonus even though their flag is wright. This misunderstanding may leads to this month bonus is not in fair way.
The quality will not come with in one month by deleting the published articles. I think it is better to recognize the some senior Triond writers, and allotting some new articles to each writer to check the content before publishing them. This helps to increasing the quantity of published articles also, by converting the non quality articles in to quality articles instead of deleting them. For this additional work the senior writers will get the some more earnings instead of this one month bonus.
Then quality also exist forever on all articles of Triond. Senior writers also will feel happy for their recognition, and new writers also feel happy for valuable guide lines from the senior writers. In this way everything will stream lined very soon.
If the writer wants ’some senior triond writers’ to edit and correct their articles to make them fit for publishing they should pay that editor at least half of whatever earnings they get from that article.
Or are those people supposed to do that for free?
I would send someone’s article through my ’spellchek’ for 50%.
Triond should make some qualified writers available to these sub-standard writers, that would increase everyone’s s involvement in raising the quality of the material here at triond.
Maybe we could have a ‘parking lot’ for writers who are suffering from writers block and they could be available (temporarily, and in order from a list) to edit others work, for a percentage.
If I work at editing something for someone else for free they better be one of my kids. Otherwise, I get paid for that. Editing some articles on this site would require a major rewrite, and to expect someone to just do that for you is a gross error in judgement. If you want to be a writer, learn how to write. Then submit for publication, not before! This is not a classroom.
I think you are not read my mail completely Annie, I am not suggested it for free work, in my intention instead of this monthly bonus Triond have to be implement some new incentive for this editing work to qualified writers. I observed some other writing sites following this way. We all know this is not a class room, but the aim of this August special is to increase the quality of articles, if all are class teachers means this contest not required. In this way this is my view to increase the quality of Triond. All electronic and print media will follow the editing division to increase quality only, not to prove for their journalist are as class room students.
Thanks Triond, I like the idea human editors will decide on the flagged articles. I think Triond will soon get huge traffic from Google as it used to get six months ago.Triond is going in the right track now.
Dear Triond,
Love this challenge and all but can you please deal with the spammers now? The forums are always filled with spammers and my article comments are spammed to the point where I have given up trying to remove them.
I agree with the Stickman Mr. Udi Uz. It’s a great idea as long as human editors will be checking. Writers only hurt themselves, if they flag without reason. I have complained quite a bit about this site. Why? Because I think Triond has the most unique writers platform on the web. Yet, little was being done to remove spammers, stalkers and inappropriate articles. I see Triond management has been listening. The road looks brighter.
I’m now on Wikinut and the spirit is not the same. I would like my old account…ministermarlene…fixed and reinstated. My articles are still available from Google, yet I can’t log in. When Triond users try to access my old account, they are sent back to their own account.
Yes, out of anger I asked for deletion, yet never returned to give my user details.
Since my articles are still in Google and still earning me adsense $$$, please fix my account. Things are certainly looking up on Triond.
Believe me, those who left, didn’t want to. They all loved the Triond platform.
I have created a new account @ministermarlene2theadvocate…but look forward to having my old account back.
As you can see from the threads where Aiyanna is spamming and defaming me, I had good reason to be upset.
Dear Triond, every member knows that Ministermarlene is a good, honest and frank person. She is a bit quick in expressing things and that got het account deleted unfortunately. She is a great writer and certainly deserves her account reactivated. Triond is the best site for writers. It gives a lot of freedom to its members.
By reactivating minister’s account Triond will prove it stands by justice.
I am sure Triond will do it, thanks.
Do articles published today count towards the challenge?
First of all, I would just like to say that both the flag button and this type of contest were first mentioned by myself in the “We Hear You” blog post. I don’t want to take credit, because I’m sure many people had similar ideas, but I just thought it would be fun to point that out.
Anyway, I think this contest is pretty good. As long as the article are truly being reviewed, then it should be very helpful. Also, it might generate some extra traffic overall as people go digging for those 15 articles. I like how you only need to publish 5 articles too, as I don’t add new stuff very often.
I’m really hoping Triond can rebuild its image over time. About a year ago, I was making around $3 a month. Now I have about twice as much content as I did then, but I’m barely going to make a dollar this month. I will be extremely happy if Triond can fix things up a bit.
Thanks Triond and good luck everyone!
articles*
How modest of you to not take the credit, it was real fun for us to have you point it out to us, in case we missed it.
Do those who “dont” flag any articles but still publish 5 or more quality articles still get the bonus?
So we go from one extreme to the other.
What are the five articles for, to make it look like a publishing contest?
Seriously, all you would have to do is find one hack writer and go back and flag fifteen of his (her) articles and you would have your fifteen flags without doing much research or much good for the site.
How about a bonus for every 20 articles one writes without getting flagged? You get a more positive response if you reward the better writers instead of ‘punishing’ the writers who shouldn’t be getting published in the first place.
I know, let’s make flagging mandatory on all articles for all triond writers.
You can add GOOD flags to the list, like ’superior’ and ‘most entertaining’ and ‘well written’, along with the bad flags.
Writers that collect superior flags could be rewarded by getting some help growing their readership.
That’s what the Like button is for, and the comments section. And rewards for likes/comments would just result in spam.
You don’t have to like an article to think it is well written.
Anyway, the like button and comments are haphazard if anything, many people leave positive comments without ever using the like button, many people don’t use either.
I think the flag button is a good idea but having to flag 15 articles before you can get a bonus is a joke. I agree that the people on here that don’t speak very good english will be easy targets, as their work is always full of mistakes and the way the sentences are written very rarely makes sense. Hopefully I haven’t offended anyone with my comment. I certainly won’t be participating in this months challenge as to be honest I can’t really be bothered to hunt for crappy articles to flag. I’d rather concentrate on giving my views to the people who work hard and deserve them!
Have we gotten so damned politically correct that we feel that we have to apologise to people that don’t speak very good English because their substandard articles are ruining this site?
How many crappy articles will a visitor have to look at before he finds your gem?
That is the point. Time readers waste trying to decipher bad articles is time your articles sit unread. How many bad articles will a visitor look at before that reader decides to go elsewhere for their intellectual fix?
I know I personally don’t like most of what I see here, and I have a hard time finding anything that is actually interesting to read.
Be honest, if it wasn’t for wikipedia half of the articles at triond wouldn’t exist.
It sounds a bit like Triond needs to hire some more editors. Perhaps that is just not possible right now, so the thankless job of editing falls to the writers, which really isn’t all that bad of a thing. Quality control is never a glamorous gig, but it really does need to be done, bonus or no bonus. For me, the plagiarism that seems to be unchecked on the site has been the biggest issue. If the flagging helps with that, I shall be satisfied.
I have my own thoughts about this too. Making flagging as part of getting a bonus, in my opinion is not in keeping with the \”Community Spirit,\” in which Triond was originally created!
How does one truly differentiate between what is porn for example and that which is erotica content? I know for a fact that one of my articles written here called the Seduction, is considered by the publishing world to be light erotica. It\’s not dirty, porn etc. in any way!
What happens when the clickish members decide they don\’t like you and start flagging all your articles? Although you may be cleared of wrong doing and your article released once again for viewing in the public, What are the legalities concerning compensation for loss earnings?
Just my thoughts and opinions. I know if this were to happen to me I would leave and seek out legal representation concerning monies lost and indirect slandering of my good name.
Haha, good one, The Quail.
The content will not be removed until an editor says so. Lots of you guys don’t seem to understand that. It will be pretty hard for people to abuse the system, because Triond doesn’t have to remove it just because it was flagged. I’ll admit, there’s some question as to the integrity of the Triond editors, but as long as they are real people, there is little room for this contest to create problems.
Suggested problem #1: Mass Flagging
“…users who try to game the system by massively flagging other users without reason and merely for the sake of obtaining the bonus will be (1) banned from flagging content and (2) forever banned from participating in this type of bonus offer.”
Problem solved (again, there is the integrity question, but we’ll assume Triond will keep their word.)
Suggested problem #2: Flagging for No Reason
“Triond users are now reporting content they think needs to be removed or relocated and we’re following their advice when appropriate!”
(focus on the “when appropriate”)
and
“we will only count a piece of content as “flagged” after an editor has removed or relocated it”
Problem solved. Not everything will be removed. Calm down. Even if it is flagged, you will lose zero revenues unless an editor actually removes it.
So, as long as Triond isn’t lying, I think we’ll be ok. Let’s just wait and see.
I think I like this idea for august special. Since mass flaggers will get banned, it should make most members actually read articles before flagging the bad ones. I guess that could bring in more ad revenue as well … I for one will surely try to get this badge, hope that not all the bad stuff is removed before I start reading articles posted by people other than my Triond friends (since only people who post quality stuff remain on my friend list).
I’m in! I hope I’ll get the badge. Go Triond!
Will the writers be able to know who flagged their articles?
http://socyberty.com/law/responsibilities-of-writers-and-websites/
Excellent article! Thanks for bringing this very important information to the forefront! So if I understand this correctly, Then the ones flagging as well as Triond its self can be sued if an author of written content is falsely flagged and accused of wrong doing?
So this also means that those hiding behind avatars and made up users names can also have their true identities known through court subpoena too. Which in turn would mean these individuals could also be sued for damages caused by all parties.
You all may want to read this article just posted… It explains the laws concerning false flagging and the possible outcome of taking this course of action. I feel everyone deserves to be able to make an informed decision. Thanks
I agree that quality should prevail but I don’t like the idea of flagging someone, this sounds like denunciation for me.
Publishing 5 quality articles should be rewarded, but encouraging flagging not.
I hope Triond change their mind. This is just my opinion, I respect what other people think.
So far, I don’t feel like participating at all.
Dear Triond
It’s nice that you are finding ways to get us bonuses and improve quality but I’ve never been one for flagging. Example, There are many writers, who English is not their first language. To some, they might flag them but for me, I would never want to because I know how much effort they put into their writing.
So, now people will not be reading articles for pleasure, but reading to flag. lol. Oh my…. This is a tricky one and what about my Triond Friends. I don’t wanna be flagging them either.
I don’t care how much effort they put in, if they can’t speak good English, then it’s not enough. Being from India does not give someone a free pass. Either don’t write, or go somewhere else where ‘Indian’ is an accepted language.
Triond accepts articles in Filipino and Spanish. Many Filipinos on Triond write in good English and in good Filipino. If ever they do write in Filipino, there is usually an English translation.
re: “….or go somewhere else where ‘Indian’ is an accepted language.”
-Not as cruel and biased as it sounds. For Indian writers, they can focus upon the site http://expertscolumn.com/ which is based in India, and does have a lot of India-based writers and subjects (as well as other, including re-published Triond etc. articles.)
I will stand first in your list of some one you can flag LE, I don’t mind if you ‘flag’ my next 15 and get the bonus. I would be pleased if you do. ‘Hugs’
Seriously, -can one ‘flag’ their OWN articles for “incorrect category?”
Who here does not have at least a few articles of their own that are published in an incorrect or less-than-suitable category? Ambiguity exists, but I have had articles about animals/nature posted in “MusiCouch” before…
Thanks Triond. However, flagging should not have been an criteria, as it involves human errors. It could be changed to commenting on other’s articles – For instance, if the person comments on all his friends’ articles, will become eligible or something like that. Can we also have an option of not flagging the same articles twice, so as to not flag the same post again and again, like I just accidentally did now.
I am not with this, let the admin decide and not the members. Why should be the judge for others. Are we appointing a panel of jury here. Some of them will make it a business. But Can I interfere in the judgement of the management.
So let me get this striaght. I’m supposed to run around, reading crap and flagging it? Is that because Triond’s hit rate has fallen, according to http://www.compete.com by 1/3rd?
Look, this site has descended into the toilet since it replaced human mods by a piece of crap software.
Networks dump TRiond sites. No one reads anything on Triond. If someone Googles and your title or tags match you get the hit, other than that…?
I know that my comment is not in line with the topic and actually, i just want to ask, what really is happening to triond? why I cant post an article and why is it that sometimes, I can’t log in?, ,is there something wrong with triond as of this moment?
Anyone????Please. .I think triond should do something with this problem cause there are a lot of writers here on triond are experiencing the same problem with me. And hopefully, it will not take for too long
and by the way, about this august special, ,i think quality contest is good cause it increases the determination of each writer to write more but in flagging someone’s work, i think its not a good idea because it could be a start of a conflict here on triond.
This is very interesting!!! Go go go Triond!!!
I flagged one of the contents in triond. The happy news is I recieved my first flag count of the ‘15′, ie, I have my first step towards the August special contest. But I want to know one thing.
1.Will he/she will be informed before banning from flagging through e-mail because of wrong flagging.
Atleast a warning is needed.
And one more thing.
2.Is there any limit in flagging in just one day?
Just wait and see, may be you are going to face the music.
Short articles don’t have quality longer and detailed information is what your reader is looking or
Short articles? i guess you put poetry in this category – it may not be as popular as many other subjects but to say what you did is incorrect.
What about articles that purposely have a misleading title, but are about something else completely and just use the title to get views. Can those be considered spam?
I know a few sites with such ‘flag’ system and they always end up with people, they some how manage to make ‘camps, and ‘groups’. I could do with out this facility. Any way choice is your’s and I am not the one who decides about them. Thanks for every thing. But I am not with this. I would rather stay away.
I think it is a nice theory. I really do. BUT, I also see a lot of problems with the flagging requirement.
Multiple people could flag the same article. Not fair for one to receive credit and not the others. Not everyone has the time to hunt down several articles and hope their flag is first. It is possible for every article to be flagged in the first few days.
There are differences in what people call “poor quality.” I agree that if it isn’t written in proper english, it should be gone. Sorry. I think any article written in a language should be written properly, whether that is English, Indian, French, Spain, or Martian. Now, a simple typo doesn’t deserve flagging. Minor mistakes happen everywhere–including novels on the NY Times best seller list. It’s one of the reason editors aren’t suppose to edit their own work; eyes adjust for mistakes and it is easy to miss.
If there is really that much bad content on Triond, then something else needs to be done first. Not a contest for flagging content. Triond should have the editors going through each article (preferably before publication). It would probably take less time than all the flagging and banning. The flagging should be available for current content, but not tied to a contest.
The editing process, the contests, the flag buttons are all very common on other writing sites. A lot of time the contests are built within themes and need to be entered by either email link, forum posting, or tags. Then real people edit and vote on it. Frequently, points are given and those with the highest point totals at the end of the month win.
I like Triond. I think it has its place in the online writing world. I would like to see more of the junk (improper English, thousands of spelling mistakes, porn) gone and for that flagging is great. I also like to see contests that properly focus on quality content. But I don’t like the idea of contests to flag. That’s just mean spirited.
I agree.
While I plan to participate with this challenge, I do see that it has a problematic nature. I agree that on some levels it is as you say, “mean spirited”. Or at least it sure does have the potential of being mean spirited. On the other hand it is also an opportunity for all of us to see the site cleaned up a bit, too. It all depends on how you approach it. Personally, I intend to approach it with cleaning and straightening in mind, not being mean.
What I more or less meant was that the focus was negative rather than positive. Only 5 articles published, but 15 articles nailed for being poor. That just strikes me as not focusing on getting good things out there.
I am all for cleaning up the site. I just think it should happen more naturally. As people come across junk it will be flagged. To ask people to spend a great amount of time looking for the junk, is silly. Ask them to write something good and get it out there. It’s time better spent. I’ll flag crap as I come across it, I’m not wasting my time–time better spent earning money, either here or elsewhere–finding junk that should never have been published in the first place.
I don’t think a clean-up can happen in a month. I think it will take time and it is more important to get the good stuff out first.
I don’t know about you Bill, but when I read an article with no capital letters, or arbitrary punctuation, it makes me feel mean spirited.
Have you read some of the letters here in this forum? Some of these ‘writers’ can’t even complain in proper English.
If you want to get 15 flags this month just flag people like the ones here that are doing the loudest complaining.
i feel bad for those articles that will be flag, this is my first time having this competition because i am a newbie but i don’t feel like joining this time.
If you really want to improve the quality of the articles posted on triond, then maybe someone should take the time out to teach us.
There are no clear cut and defined rules as to which goes where.
For example: How will we be able to make sure our content will be published on a certain category like poetry or religion or offbeat?
And how will we be able to pass the standards you set for it to have a quality that contains a sufficient level of writing quality for publication on your sites.
You are supposed to pick the category during submission. I know that often times it still isn’t placed correctly. That is why I always check my articles and 90% of the time have to put in a relocation request. Most, not always, it is honored and put in the right category. Unfortunately, it is still often in the wrong subcategory. Drives me bonkers.
I like other writing sites that have you pick the category and then from their have you pick the subcategory. Some of the sites only go 2 deep, others up to 5 deep. I think it is a much better system. If subcategories aren’t fitting, then maybe you chose the wrong category in the first place. Easy fix before publication.
what i meant was, what really defines a category.
example: if you were to submit a poem, in what format should it be> what topics can you use? how much poetic license is allowed for you to use. what are the parameters that defines a category?
I keep getting declined.
So i checked how one triond writer writes here. I see some misspellings and yet their topic goes through.
I saw one who writes poems and his poems go through as well.
I tried to mimick what they were doing just to see what made their topics sufficient enough for triond but still mine does not go through.
I run my articles through spell check and i make sure mine is original and not just some copy pasted material from wikipedia or other sources from the web and yet i keep getting declined.
i used to get my poems published within minutes but nowadays it seems impossible to do that.
and yet i still see a lot of articles that aren’t really original getting published. Are the editors biased?
Wow. If I am correct, articles can only be reviewed by triond members or writers. How about opening the thing up to all comers? We writers need views.
This is a curious contest. Why is it so important that people use this new flag? I don’t flag because I don’t spend any time with stupid articles or sign up with silly writers.
I am waiting to here more. Of course, what we really need maybe more than want is increased earnings. With Google kicking this site to the curb, it doesn’t show up much anymore. What does show up I noticed are the heavy hitter sites. Clearly, Google’s interest in this mess is earning more money for Google.
Is there a place to see what types of articles need to go into which sites?
What Triond should fix is the EARNINGS. Please increase writer’s earnings.
Also triond, please make it possible for us to FLAG these SPAMMERS!
Also, think twice about your flagging contest. I’m not in favor.
You should reward the good writers. Give earning bonuses to those who publish 5- 10 articles a day.
Lyn, should triond give bonuses to those who publish 5-10 articles a day, this would only end up in increased poor quality and plagiarised articles 10 fold. Imho.
To All On Here….
When you attack another person due to his or her race, color or nationality that is hate slander and discrimination. Mr. Brown this goes for you as well and you can be sued over words of this nature. Is America not a free country who opened her gates to persons of all nationality.
And do they not have the same rights as you or I. Do your homework and check and see where Triond Corporation is based out of.
Ignorance is no excuse for writing hate, slander and discrimination. If Triond does its job then you will be removed for those offensive words.
What? If you write in English (or French, or Spanish, or whatever language they speak on Jupiter) then you are aiming for audiences that speak that language. It is not “an attack” to say that articles should be written correctly in the language they are written, whether or not that person is learning the language. Articles need to be easy to read for the reader. If they are not, they bring down the whole site because it builds a bad reputation. There is plenty of help for non-native speakers to learn and craft their skills to have better articles. If writers are not taking advantage of this, they are not doing themselves any favors.
I love triond, I despise the idea. Go back to the content challenges only. Thanks
Hi, Udi Oz! I’ve published 16 articles. But I don’t find my 9 articles in my published list. Where are my 9 articles? At first they all were published and there were many visits on them. Now, I can’t find them…even I can’t open them through facebook links. Please fix this problem.
Okay how about our August payments…? This post says nothing about them.
Hi, I have some articles that belonged to wrong category, which is not my fault but of triond miss post it. Now, please inform me that my link has been changed in order that i can change my links on my recommendation site.
If you change the post site the link will change, please have a little effort on informing us of the changes of the link as it is very important on my part.
This a chance and i am going to try and make good use of it
I hate this, I have an article that has been erased. Well, if it was not quality article then why is google giving me 60 viewers a day already and it can be seen at the top 10 searcher of google.. viewers are climbing, so somebody flag it on purpose.
Some people don’t like other people and these event will lead to killing each other’s work.
I will not be flagging anybody on purpose, yet I am not entering into these event.
I have people who hated me, thank you for flagging my work. You are just jealous I get viewers easily. why not flag all my article to.
Addjust, no-one but you can see how many views you are getting on any particular article. Someone flagged it because it was obviously plagiarsed, copied, or otherwise.
People will not be flagging you out of spite.
Addjust, don’t worry about it. I have seen your work and it is not copied and not plagiarsed. You are not alone. Anyways you can post your work somewhere else. But, it hurts thought that you focus to much on one site. It is a lesson to you not to trust sites that are not yours.
Thank you Marie Milton, Maybe in there eyes it is and there is nothing I can do about it.
By the way, Plagiarsed , copied articles will not get any spot in the top 10 searches of google, google is so smart detecting it and will put your article in the bottom.
James, It is okay dude, I am now hurrying to transfer my articles to a site. It doesn’t hurt really, maybe my articles are not worth in here.
It just give me additional work transferring my links. lol I hate changes in my article cycle.Grrrr aditional work work work..

I flagged over 15 articles yesterday, yet the counter on my dashboard still shows 0. Anyone know why?
Your flags have to be approved by a person before they actually count . As an anime fan, I’ve already flagged manga related scanlator spam, so I just have to go write now, and for me, that won’t be a problem. I’ve got a backlog of reviews that will definitely qualify me for a bonus.
So out of my more than 15 flags, none of them have been checked? I flagged them yesterday…
Not that it worries me very much but leaving out certain published items such as Authspot, discriminates against those whose work mainly appears on there. Once again you are leaning towards news and usual topics, of which so many are pure conjecture and without a grain of truth. It is Triond who decides where a piece of work goes not the author. Marks to Triond for this 4 out of 10.
I have 2 questions here. Thanks.
(1) When we flag, will the writers (victims) know who are the flaggers?(2) Can we flag our own posts? (for wrong location)
@Triond
If an editor is checking through all things that are flagged before removing them/relocating them, it begs the question of why they aren’t checking them before they are published – which would negate the need for the flagging button in the first place!
Granted, the sheer weight of stuff already out there validates this kind of idea, but surely the end game has to be the removal of that and the stopping of new stuff.
If the argument is that you don’t have the manpower to check each and every submission properly at point of submission then there are ways round that.
The admins don’t have the time to look over EVERY new article. If 1/10th of all articles get flagged, then the admins have to spend 9/10th less time on checking them.
I’m having a little trouble wrapping my mind around this math, haha.
If 1/10 of all articles get flagged, then whatever peon the admins hired to look at this stuff will have to look at 1/10 of the articles. The articles won’t get removed until after a human makes that decision. Flagging something doesn’t automatically remove it.
That same peon could use that same time to look at new articles as they come in and accept of reject them, with a short note explaining the rejection. Articles with mistakes in the title are the easiest to spot. Even if this peon only stopped 1/10 of the bad articles from being published eventually this site will clear up nicely, like a teenager’s acne if only he just washed his face once a day.
Exactly – they don’t have the time to look over EVERY new article, but then again why would they need to look over ones from the writers who have proven their worth already by writing articles that aren’t plagiarised, are ‘well written’, have proper spelling and punctuation etc etc. Thus saving time to look over the ones that do need looked over. Simples!
Just to add. Let’s say this whole flagging thing works perfectly and at some point in the future they have cleared up the whole site – what then? Do they turn round and say they are not going to check any new submissions until people flag them? Or do they check new submissions and stop the problem in the first place!
In the case of the former, that’s akin to saying that they will continue to publish plagiarised, spun, badly written work and won’t do anything about it unless other users tell them about it – which doesn’t really solve anything and just papers over the cracks. It doesn’t fix anything, it simply moves/delays it!
It is my opinion that there needs to come a time when Triond do check all submissions and thus stops the problems before they are published – and if they don’t have time to look through all submissions then maybe they should think about limiting how much people can publish per day depending on their ‘track record’ on Triond.
For my second comment here, I would like to say that I am very sorry that people here excite universal hatred and use slander in their responses. This is a shame and Triond should do something about it and immediately stop this flagging idea that brought nothing good.
We are all equal, and I just want to say I have friends all over the world, from all countries, races, religions and from all walks of life. Respect is the dignity of mankind. Peace and love to all!
True. And to those addressed by Francois who, I presume are excellent English users, it would do you well to learn a basic lesson in English spelling… that universal peace starts with “U.”
To Triond, I know you are trying real hard to clean up the site but I hope you also consider raising the “flag” for excellent articles. Little by little, step by step, we can get there.
This is silly- so we have to look for bad or plagiarized articles and give them the page view just so we can flag them. THEN the flag only counts is something is actually done about the flagging. That means a significant number of people have to flag the same article to even get the flagging looked at, but in the meantime we are giving our time and pageviews to people that deserve it the least. Not a bonus I want any part of. I’d much rather have a contest of liking other quality articles rather than seeking out the worst to flag.
I got 24 flags so far, and going for 30….does that mean I GET 20%???
Happy flaggings!
lol kidding……But STILL 20% WOULD be nice…
Nooooooooo, I hate Triond!!! All my articles have been deleted!!!!!!! I hate you Triond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I detest the “nice read”, “interesting information”, “thanks for sharing” commentators. Do they really think that their flippant words will influence me to read their articles? Well, normally I just delete them but I have found that these pathetic link spammers write articles with “insufficient quality” and have started flagging their garbage accordingly.
PROBLEM: I have flagged 5 articles but have 0 (zero) showing on my dashboard. Does it take time for this statistic to be generated or have I just wasted my time?
It is a waste of time…..
This is quite possibly the worst idea I have ever seen on this website, congratulations on that accomplishment.
Flagging is like flogging if it is abused. The system is synonymous with quarreling with writers. Editors or flaggers for that matter have “the ax to grind”. No passion in this world can equal the passion of altering another person’s draft.
There are people with the holier-than-thou attitude. A flagger should show the writer flagged that his writing is better– maybe not a lot better, just a little better. If you are a critic you must be an expert on the field you are criticizing. I would suppose that some flaggers are failed writers, and so are most writers. Flaggers do not make great authors or writers. They are the same banana.
There are also those who just want to make money at the expense of others. It’s like rising above the grave of others. I like to earn money but not this way.
I predict trouble. I don’t want to filibuster my co-writers, because we in Triond are a family. I refuse to join the fray. The system is simply revolting. The negatives outweigh the positives.
.
Very well said. I totally agree my friend. We are a family here. I met great friends on this site. Triond’s idea of flagging is the worst ever!
Seriously?? wow! Just when I thought there might be hope.
This is a bad idea!
15 flags come on!
So now you want US to moderate the site for you and get rid of the dross that’s pulling us all down? Get real. Why not drop the Forum and then lots of the silly peoople will leave automatically. You might want to drop the Hot Content list too – it’s laughable.
These are good ideas.
I agree with you on all counts Rask. I refuse to go into the Forum it is a disgusting waste of time.
I’ve been having trouble with my Triond account. First I couldn’t log on, I didn’t get paid last month, then when I could log on I found most of my articles had been removed. I’ve e-mailed and used the ‘help’ function but been totally ignored.
I’m now trying to republish the articles. In some cases, I’m told they’ve already been published. A link is provided – mostly to a page saying the article can’t be found (I’m assuming that’s the page where my article appeared before it was removed)
Today, I had a decline notification and the link was to my article, but published by another user. I checked this person’s profile http://www.triond.com/users/imran1011 and have found other of my articles published by him.
Please look into this matter urgently.
I have found another Triond user who has plaigerised my articles. http://www.triond.com/users/Greenthroat
Please look into this issue urgently!
Hi There.
Just a question about the flagging. I am finding it rather easy to find things that are in the wrong location (for example a lot that have been categorised under “society” should be under “health”) but I was just wondering whether the “articles flagged by you” number was the amount you’d flagged altogether, or the amount that had actually had action taken and therefore counted towards the bonus?
My “flagged” number currently reads “3″, so when it reads “15″ will I be eligible for the bonus or might the number go down later on in the month?
Thank you for clearing this up.
We Hear You …
I have flagged several articles because they seem to be written by an idiot. No capitalization, sentences which make little if any sense. This equals insufficient quality in any reasonable person’s mind so why haven’t I been credited with these finds on my dashboard? Is this another rip off?
Also, I flagged Ulsterman on Triond as the same article, same title appears twice in the popular reads box. I’ve used the plagiarism category to report this but really it should be under “duplicate”. I noticed that both articles are still up.
I’m totally p*ssed off with the crap published on Triond but obviously what I consider crap is different to what Triond considers crap. I’m going to flag more “crap” – which is a pain because it has to be read first – and then leave it be. I’ll ensure I’ve flagged 15 even if they don’t show up on my dashboard. I’ll keep a note of the URLs. I’m not expecting the 10% bonus as I’ve accepted that it is another rip off but I’ll have the proof that I did what was called for to qualify for it.
re: comments e.g: “…you are going to reward people for flagging, and then tell us that a human editor will check those articles flagged?”
Really, the scammers and scrapers outnumber Triond 1000s-to-1 by ratio and they proceed with impenitence. Asking or inviting Triond READERS to help identify bad content (and reward us for doing so) will greatly aid Triond staff and site and serve to balance the terms of future engagements by would-be scammer/Copyright thieves. Knowing that there are possible thousands of Triond USERS that are now able to watch for problems and report them (assuming the reported articles are dealt with forthwith) then maybe there would be fewer cheaters and plagiarists here.
Used to be Triond was the place to STEAL articles FROM. Now, it is a haven for STOLEN articles to reside. -Let’s get to work and clean house!

Simply Flagging
This is the dumbest motive I’ve ever seen in a supposedly well-established writing site. Anyone can flag just for the sake of 10% and then the flagged article will be removed and the descent author will lose income for a scam or an idiot who flags!
GET REAL Triond, or else descent writers will remove their articles and go elsewhere. The Internet is full of writing opportunities.
So much for a motive!! Jesus!
Definitely a bad idea and will lead to abuse!!!
Can you introduce a flag for writers who cannot spell?
It’s six days now and I’m still wondering which article to flag. Flagging is a stupid idea.
To Triond
It truly saddens me to see what once was considered to be the very best writing community on the internet, sink to the bottom of the list of writing platforms, where new and seasoned writers alike are encouraged to become content police due to Triond’s own inability to carry out its own personal responsibilities to its members.
Having your members flag other writers works and encouraging them to do so as part of a contest is just so wrong in so many ways! A lot of those participating in this months contest are openly admitting and bragging about their deeds to others in hopes of getting attention from others in the community etc..
It has been my experience so far… Those who standup and say they’ll have no part in this “WITCH HUNT” become targets by all those which choose to go along with the rest concerning your ill fated flagging bonus!
I want to thank all those who flagged my articles due to them being listed in the wrong category. Especially my medicine plant journals which Triond placed in unrelated categories such as society and recipes!
On another note: Deleting writers materials without at least giving them a chance to remove their materials first, may lead to legalities you as a publishing platform may want to review before doing so… Allowing your members to send hate mail and to brag about the flagging they are doing may also lead to other legal repercussions too!
Triond, telling your members or leading them to believe that their identities are safe from others wishing to take legal action is also wrong! Their user names, email addresses and the name of the person owning the email addresses can be obtained through court order! This is a given!
Last but not at all least! Triond, I’ M STILL STANDING!!!
On a practical note I think the thing that offers the best defence in legal matters is the sheer cost of taking action, especially if it has to be an international action. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure Triond is based in Israel so you’d need to take action there to force disclosure of real world identities and then you’d need to take action against the person you are accusing in your home country. Or would it be in their home country? Or the country the computer servers storing the offensive statements are physically present in? Few private individuals can afford to do this. Now if you piss off a multinational corporation by slandering their reputation they can go to enormous lengths to get you, but most indivuals would balk when their lawyer explained the cost of a case that spans national borders.
One Humble Suggestion: There should be a submit key besides the “Flag It” dropdown, because when the net browser is slow, instead of “Wrong Category” it picks up other categories. I hope Triond management will take notice of this and fix this at the earliest. With high confident hopes, Thank you.
I guess I shall have to sit this one out. Flagging other writers goes against my grain, especially when it is done anonymously. Of course, I appreciate your concern for quality content, and it is good that an editor has the final say. I’ll just continue to write quality articles this month without flagging.
HI trinoid team,
it’s a great pleasure to have new feature flagging,it will help improve our content posting skills very much. How this new feature going to happen?
Okay. Up until this point I’ve been happy to go along with this whole “flagging” thing, but now I’m not too sure.
I’ve had SIX redirections on my articles. NONE of them NEEDED to be redirected, and I now have to take time to get them placed in the right category again.
People are just “reporting” for the sake of things, and your moderation team are just removing/redirecting anything and everything that’s flagged.
I’m fed up of this now, and people are reporting my work, which was thought about very much, and do NOT appreciate people using my hard work in order to get themselves a few extra cents.
I wouldn’t mind if they HAD been in the wrong category, but they weren’t.
What about the issue of flagging libelous articles? They shouldn’t really be recategorised. They should be removed. There is no category for Libel/Lies.
As far as I see it, that is insufficient quality. At least, that’s how I was “raised.” Flagging isn’t unique to revenue sharing sites, and that is how many other sites see it. I wrote an article (and I was also raised not to post links in forums) called Triond Flagging: What Should be Flagged. I would love to know what others think of it. I’m sure through my home page if you’re interested.
There IS a category for lies. It’s called Religion.
But seriously, I’d agree with LK that factual errors in what’s meant to be a factual article count as insufficient quality. If it were on Purple Slinky as a spoof, one might say it’s OK, but on the other sites no.
I did not bother to check out the articles of other writers until this August challenge.
No wonder so many good writers complained about the quality of the sites. There are indeed many spams.
I have flagged more than 15 articles. All those are really bad. There are a few with just 20x of “how to make easy money”, and that is submitted and published as an article.
Your post is very great.
Not real sure about judging others too harshly, especially being one of the ‘newbies’ on Triond. I think I’ll just lay low a bit. Kind of worried about possibly writing something up wrong now, even tho my world is pretty much rated PG, LOL.
Not all challenge can be won i know it will be difficult so i will not waste my time looking for people articles to be flagged i will just publish more articles and allow criminal looking for free 10% to check them so that i can earn from it also…….
Good Luck Triond Friend
Triond: This is the worst idea ever. Perhaps if you spent some time fixing current problems (for instance, I STILL can’t edit my profile in your edit menu) and less inventing stuff like this it would be better by default. Less work for everyone, right? I will not be on a “flag hunt” to get the bonus – I think it does my fellow writers a disservice.
Why haven’t I got my award?
I’ve published 5 articles (all in acceptable categories), flagged 15 articles but no emblem!
What is this?
Oh, I just realized that you get it at the end of the month! Stupid me!
I have flagged many articles on the grounds of “insufficient quality” but I’ve only been credited with 2 “flagged by you” on my dashboard. The only possible explanation is that Triond found that the articles I flagged were actually of “good quality”. This means that misspelling, poor punctuation and bad grammar are being encouraged and the message “just keep spewing out crap” will have been received loud and clear by the idiot members.
No, that’s not the conclusion I’d come to. I think it far more likely that Triond simply didn’t realise the quantity of flagged articles they’d have to review and don’t have the manpower to keep up. Lots of things about the site make me think it’s run on good intentions but insufficient resources, and ideas but poor implementation.
Or thinking about it some more, it might be that when several members flag the same item only the person first to flag it gets the credit? But once again am merely speculating since Triond give you very little idea what goes on under the hood.
I am not a big fan of this. People have been flagging my articles because my english is very simplistic. Sure, considering it is my third language, of course it is going to be simple. I have yet to learn a lot more of english but that should not be the reason why I should be flagged. I am here trying to share with others my interests and then I get this. I am so disappointed. This august special has opened the door for people to be as rude and as mean as they can. It is so unfair
@ Pippa – I certainly applaud you for learning three languages. That said, it doesn’t give you a pass to not use correct grammar when writing. Everyone must listen, learn, and practice before they do something. So look at the flagging as an opportunity to listen to reader feedback, even if you feel it’s harsh; learn what you’re doing wrong by researching what readers are pointing out; and continue practicing to perfect your English and grammar.
Well, it is not easy. And I am doing my best and it is very disappointing that I am bumping into such resistance along my way. Just because I use simple language it does not mean my articles are not good. I can not use big word because I do not know them – big deal! I am running my articles through word spell check and triond spell check. Well guess what, even these “perfect” softwares do not seem to get it right. So please just give me a break. By the way ever since you flagged that article of mine now I can not publish anything. I even tried to write an article using high end vocab words – which took me 45 minutes to figure what they mean – they still say the quality is not good. How can they know when they declined it exactly 3 seconds after I submitted it. You seem to have been here long enough so you probably know how triond works and how fast they start declining oafter you are flagged once. It would have not killed anyone to send me a message first. it would have been a much better way for anyone to |help me with my english”. This is all too frustrating and diappointing
@Pippa – I don’t believe I would have flagged you (judging by the quality of your comments). I don’t think you should worry though as, like I stated originally, the crap articles I have flagged have not been credited as flagged. It seems the only articles that have been credited have been flagged as in the wrong category. So, if you want to make the bonus this month look for recipes in the news and similar ridiculous publications.
There is far too much rubbish on Triond and it should be flagged and removed.
The quality check Triond do must surely be automatic, just a piece of software. Given the speed some articles go up after submitting, no human could have read and approved them. The exact algorithm is a total mystery, though, as it occasionally rejects perfectly good items yet lets through complete and utter nonsense – like the nonsense poem I wrote earlier this week, part of which I quote here:
An erudite and reemly splig
It knew not to bedrittle
But vanish in a mittlerig
Though it might be brittle
That is so full of invented words I just made up that it surely must fail any spell check and grammar check, but it was posted no problems at all!
BWOfficer,
Back in 2007, when I joined the Triond community, human editors did a real job of editing here at Triond. But I think it was some time in 2009 that the automated system went in place. It uses a kind of artificial intelligence, which I would say doesn’t really seem very intelligent.
@ Pippa –
I see that responding to your first comment was rather pointless. Just as with those that flagged you, your first reaction was to think that someone was out to get you or degrading you. You’ll never learn to use “bigger words” and use correct grammar if you’re allowed to publish as is and never be told what you’re doing wrong.
I’m sorry that you’re having difficulty publishing now, but what do you think happens to Triond’s rating if the site is full of half-baked English that’s poorly written and so simple that it looks like it came straight from a kindergarten class? Advertisers and readers leave and ranking goes down, which means none of us make any money!
Instead of being mad at whomever flagged you, it would be much better use of your time to study and improve your writing and language skills. To help you get started, I will show you the errors in your above comment and a better way to structure your sentences:
“It’s not easy. I am doing my best, and it’s very disappointing that I’m bumping into such resistance. Using simple language doesn’t mean that my articles aren’t good. I can’t use big word because I don’t know them – big deal! I’m running my articles through word spell check and Triond’s spell check, but even the software doesn’t catch every error. So please just give me a break. By the way, I haven’t been able to get anything published since you flagged my article……”
I agree that correct grammar and language usage is important, regardless of how many languages one speaks. I still feel that this bonus for flagging is a really stupid idea. It just detracts from what writers should be doing: writing, not editing. If you want to be an editor, do that.

@Ross – kindly use the reply button when responding to comments. Thank you.
Sure. That better?
The @ symbol is out of place and misused. You stand flagged.
The @ symbol is out of place and misused. Should you be flagged now?
Why couldn’t you come up with a better incentive, other than the flag button? There is bound to be problems with spammers.
I published 15 articles this month and flagged upto 23 articles and I got that in my counter.
I feel not bad because i just flagged those contents which were adult rated contents.
But i don’t will I get my badge.
So far I’ve flagged about 20 articles but have only been credited with 3 on my dashboard. If I don’t receive the bonus it will be proof that this contest was a swindle and a cheap way for Triond to sort its site out. I hope this is not the case.
I’ve flagged quite a few as ‘insufficient quality’ where the English was so bad that you couldn’t understand what the author was on about (not for minor errors) and yet I still only show 6 as credited. I wonder whether Triond truly realised the number of articles that would be flagged and whether they had the resources to review them all. Once again a good idea marred by poor execution, Triond.
Sometimes it takes them a day or two to get them all checked out. After a while, I lost track of the number that I flagged, mostly regarding misplaced articles in the wrong category. But I now have 18 that have been credited to me, so I’m golden. Give them time, they’ll get around to it.
Triond have now credited me with sufficient numbers of flagged articles. When it seemed that I wasn’t being credited for flagging poor English I switched to flagging for being in the wrong category. I’m not sure how articles get filed under totally irrelevant sections but they do.
It seems to take some time for the system to recognize the flags…. I did eventually get all of mine credited. Hope you do too!

Most of the articles I flagged were because they were in the wrong category. I would like to see Triond have some sort of limit on word count. I’ve noticed quite a few publish very short articles – it can’t take them very long to write – nor do they offer quality. I think at least 150 words should be the minimum. I hope Triond will continue to improve – and if they listen to our construction criticism – perhaps they will.
So, when do the bonuses actually get paid?
I would guess whenever they award the badges they’ll add it to our earnings… Idk I’ve never participated in a special before. But I do know that Triond does tend to delay things a bit; as long as they get around to it, I’m okay.
[...] you qualify for our August Special Bonus? Did you? Then you must have already guessed where that additional 10% that were just added [...]
Well something went wrong with mine!
I don’t understand. I don’t just think that I qualified. I don’t just believe that I qualified. I KNOW that I qualified. I got 5 articles published in August, and you accepted 18 of the content items that I flagged. So where is my badge? Why is there no rightly earned badge on my profile for the August Bonus? This is very wrong! And I am justifiably upset!
You can keep the badge, but where is my 10% bonus? I published 5 articles on qualifying sites, and flagged over 20 pieces of content in August. So where is my 10% bonus???
Checking…
You right. You do need to get the bonus. I’ll fix that and I will check if there are more writers who didn’t get the bonus because of that mistake. Once fixed I’ll update.
Thanks for letting us know.
You bet there were more!
Thanks Udi, but now you need to go to the other blog post about this flag bonus, http://blog.triond.com/2011/09/03/august-special-bonuses-and-badges-granted/ and answer the many who have there pointed out this mistake with their accounts.
Thanks Udi!
I too have not received my badge but I have earned the 10% bonus. Please update. There are many others just like me.
Haven’t got my badge nor bonus yet. Hope you can fix this!
I am also among those guys who haven’t recieved my bonus or badge, even though I qualified for the August Special. I wrote 8 articles (but one was in authspot) and flagged around 18 articles. Can you please check what’s wrong with my bonus & badge?
My username : ASWIN 7148685
The bonus is fixed now. Everyone who was entitled to get the bonus got it. Please let me know if not. Sorry for the delay. Thanks to you all and special thanks to Joe Dorish.
